Princess Tessy - The Princess Diary - September 2008

September 30 19:23
There should be some things happening around here in just a bit of time. *hugs* I just have to plan things properly before i create this time, so my homepage and things dont end up half done again.
September 26 12:44
To help make today happy me Mr Bear and Lady Bear are snooping on a tv series. It is called 'Keeping up Appearances' and is really funny. I have one idea about possible movie evenings shared with Citizens in the future maybe we can smile together. Although that will require fast Internet probably, and not quite sure if it is possible. But it would be fun, everyone make popcorns and escape to our happy world to watch a movie or parts from some funny cartoon or tv series.

I should have known... streaming flash webcam requires a flash server. Webthings never are easy...
September 21 10:09
Ok so i found an open source flash client for webcams and chatting. It looked like it could be a start for the happy world live picture into future, i wanted Flash for that a long time since it can be viewed by just about all web browsers. That old simple refresh is ooold, javascript too, java too, and the streaming from webcam32 isnt really what it could be. So i saved Adobe Flash CS3 or some such for 30 days of trial. Oh my was it annoying to install... errors 5 times, Googled around, some page said remove all old Flash installs. So i did. Still got a complaint, tried installing again and suddenly it went ok. Mindboggling. But now me and the little webmaster can snoop at how sharing a webcam through Flash works.
September 21 07:53
Webcamera is alive, but it changed mood and today it is a weather-camera. I think it will be snooping inside the castle soon though.
September 21 06:58
For one thing, i think PHP can do clever things like this idea i just got. About photo comments, some leave naughty comments, some leave nice comments, some want to read one type or both or none. So i will try to figure out a way to let those famous internet cookies remember what tourist A and B prefer. Just like Google settings options and such. It should be possible, dont you think little webmaster? Oh no he is still asleep... well i have a cup of tea and wait for him to wakey up then.
September 21 06:52
I think i will stop being serious and trying to have just one direction on webthings. Long ago i just created what i felt like no matter how random, and i remember i had fun. So i will resume that and stop bothering with things that are just slow. That way there might just be more things happening around here again.
September 14 19:56
Well we watched and watched... and after 11 episodes we think this tv series is still worth following. Now i just wonder when and how Lost will continue, i actually dont watch tv much anymore so i might have missed it. We have been pondering getting all tv channels in our castle or none. All would be so i have everything available wich is how it should be in a royal home. But we also kind of like the idea to not stare at a tv many hours of ones life. I like the idea of reading books instead, or be sewing, or hugging, or just sitting around pondering on this or that. We had enough tv watching for a few days at least now, bedtime is getting close and some goodnight *hugs* would be nice. So good night. *hug*
September 14 11:49
I got tired of webthings lately, and today i got the idea to have a tv marathon watching all the season 2 episodes of Heroes. I will just find some yummy things so me and Mr Bear dont starve, it will be quite a long tv watching day but time for so many hugs.
September 08 23:03 [link]
If someone else is eager to learn egen computer geeky things like what i am doing lately, the link goes to PHP. I might share some of my little bits and pieces of code with Citizens later, so they can look for errors or improvements.
September 08 22:54
I didnt get the Tourist registration done yet it is a little more complicated than i first thought. Or it isnt really, but takes time to carefully get it all working right. And what takes equally much time is carefully making things work right even when they dont work right... as in someone entering wrong information in a web form. And what if someone from the grumpy world tries something mean, well that needs to be noticed and acted on too. It will be done this week, and probably Citizenship basics aswell.
September 07 21:45
Trying to get my sleeping hour more normal a bit slower, me and Mr Bear rested a few hour and then the plan is to get to bed in decent time tonight. So i can wake up in the morning and actually get up too. I will keep myself busy with the first part of Citizen (actually Tourist) registration for those who are interested. Tourists can remain quite anonymous all it takes is a verified email and a password. I intend to make it so not logging in for lets say a month also automatically removes the email. Its easy to re-register anyway.
September 07 05:25
Oh no poor Cookie Monster... I just happen to listen to his song 'Handful of Crumbs' on the Muppet Central Radio... oh noooo he doesnt want cookie crumbs he wants big cookies. *huggles*
September 06 22:04
I have an idea about web browsers and pages looking a little different depending on wich is used... I will just require all my Citizens be using Firefox. If pages dont look like i intended in other browsers that isnt my problem any longer.
September 06 21:43
Maybe i better get myself also that Netscape browser, and i think one i never used is named Opera, just to figure out some way of designing homepage so it looks the same in all of them. But i use Firefox and recommend it any time over IE if not for anything but web surfing safety.
September 06 21:07
Uh oh... i had odd sleeping hours lately so i tried to get the more normal again. I was really tired early yesterday evening so i went to bed early, put wake up alarm for 8 in morning. No problem i waked up 5 minutes before 8 and switched alarm off. I often wake up just before wake up alarms, i think i have a clock in my mind that is good at avoiding being waked up by beeps. I prefer to wake up on my own. But then i quickly got sleepy again, and didnt even get out of bed until i slept again... and i remained very sleepy until just lately. And it is evening... i slept almost 24 hours. Oh well, guess nights will be my days and i better try changing hours more slowly not all at once.
September 05 18:20
Anyway enough about technical webthing bothers for a while. It is weekend and so i will put some extra energy to waking up my homepage and the Happy World. I already read about how to properly handle logins and such, so i will try to get that done first. Just the first simple basics, so those who know they want to become my loved Citizens can register and be remembered around here. *hugs* Being remembered is done with internet cookies, mmm... cookies. I never learned about those until lately. I will bake cookies and yummy things for the Cafe later too. And one thing about Citizenships, they will be autonumbered from 2 and in a possible future with many citizens, loyal long time citizens will have priority over newer ones. That kind of sorting might not be needed ever, but i will mention it here in advance. But today was long and eyes are tired so now me and Mr Bear will have a lazy evening hugging on the sofa.
September 05 16:58
Oh and for those thinking being creative on the Internet is simple... well it can be, using Wordpress or similar things. But learning and doing it the 'want to know how it all works' way that can be another thing. I wondered half the day why a tiny javascript worked fine in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer. I even upgraded my IE to a new one, still didnt work. Searched information and tried and tried... found another more complicated script i could simplify, and then that one worked. Ok i thought... they do the same thing, i named the new attempt scriptname2 instead of the first scriptname. And then it somehow entered my mind, maybe just maybe... the scriptname i choosed is reserved in IE for some reason. Apparently it was, because after i deleted script 2, changed name on the first really simple one, it worked too. So all i had to know in advance was to not name the script funtion X but X2 or XY or whatever... oh well, just sharing more geeky news from the depths of internet computer jungle. Now it works, and i wont ever do the same mistake again.
September 05 10:16
Well i have completed the first part of a serious new webthingy, it is just one of those things behind things that nobody sees much. But it will end up very useful.
September 04 20:40 [link]
There it is, some privacy for various things that might warrant it. It gives an error in Firefox 3, but clicking the links to set a permanent security exception makes that go away. Similar in the IE i have, version unknown, just accept the certificate and it works fine. The only thing missing is signing from a 'trusted source' wich is... guess what... companies looking for income. So i will just let this be as it is, until possibly my Citizens decide their tax coins should be spent on that little bit of annoyance. Now resuming php things or some such, after i have a nice cup of healthy green tea.
September 04 04:52
As if things couldnt get more annoying with webthings... i wondered why my secure webpages suddenly gave error pages, and basically showed nothing until i made a 'security exception' to go on. It appears its a new 'great' feature in Firefox 3 to 'save' all the average Internet users from bogus websites or some such. But as mentioned on a blog i read, that crap is only good for the businesses or organizations bothering to become a 'trusted' issuer of SSL certificates. Mind anyone since i dived into all this lately i know creating an SSL certificate is easy using OpenSSL and so it is free to do. The security of the connections isnt affected by having the certificate 'verified' by VeriSign or any other company wanting $$ for it. I guess it could be a good thing in some ways, but certainly just annoying for others. Oh well... maybe i just give all this up its just frustrating sometimes.
September 03 22:29 [link]
Finally these first little things should be working. I thought i would just share the link to the listing of links here, with a link to add more amusing ones for those who want to share smiles with others. I will spend some time polishing that after some hugs with not so computer geeky hugfriends, they want company too. Anyway that is php code now instead of old CGI and has two database tables for verified links and submitted links. So yes i also should make pages where i can look through submitted links and move those that should be there to the active table. So much mindboggling little details to think about when being creative on the Internet... but now i have a beginning.
September 03 20:59
Hmm this is a jungle... but the new bouncy links thingy should be working before i go to bed. I just have to figure out some more things, like how to list all the random links on pages for those who prefer exploring them less randomly. And then it could also be an idea to list them by date added i think, so the newest are first. Oh well... now they ' works, and making my way through the jungle i also found some other important php functions. And yes i will be writing more about other things here when the discovery newness wear off. Besides this is the little webmasters task in the happy world, i just help him a bit.
September 03 18:26
Ok resuming the efforts for the happy bouncy smiley... I gave up a short while because quite invisibly to people looking at webpages there is some little bit about some characters being 'encoded' for web viewing. Like the ' wich is some #&39; or so but that will probably get filtered by my diary. So taking input from a simple web form, things need be stored in plain human readable text in the database, then encoded when printed to a webpage. Oh the bothers with all this... but progress will be made and these things will be really good to figure out for the future. So i try again this evening.
