Princess Tessy - The Princess Diary - June 2009 June 26 13:21 Extra warm summer comes around here lately that is nice, although i prefer to stay out of the sunshine in mid day. I am not used to really warm weather and a summer day in southern Europe i may as well stay in the shadow somewhere. I saw recently a tv program from Dubai and there people must be used to not just warm but actually hot weather. And some women there wear black too... i would not melt i think i might start boiling.  Anyway i forgot the webthings and our first happy world computer program a while. Me and the little webmaster will ofcourse resume these things any coming cloudy day, but i hope both us here in the castle and everyone else get to spend some nice days outside under the summer sun too. We are also deciding to maybe launch a little project to help the royal treasury grow more nicely through rest of year. Mr Bear shouldnt have to ever worry about moneys. *hugs* Anyway now we have a working webcamera program for a fresh restart of webthings. June 15 08:43 After being up all night because i sometimes just wont give up... our own sending of live pictures, it now appears to work. Well it doesnt work quite as quickly as i might want for now, updating only every 10 seconds. But struggling to learn even the tiny bits and pieces about this and that, me and the little webmaster can fix things that dont work as expected. So if the picture stops updating after an hour or whatever like it did some day ago, we can add a test for that and restart the whole thing. We are quite tired now, at least me and the little Garfield who were up all night. The four hugfriends who live on a shelf slept all night though, they voluntered to be looked at all day instead of us tired ones. Anyway hopefully the basics of a home created live picture will now work, and can later be more slowly improved. No more ignoring sleep for me, not this week anyway. June 14 14:03 Resuming creating of our own webcamera program, i decided me and the little webmaster will write our own FTP class. The one we found shared for using was a mess, i need to have things in order. My order. June 13 22:51 Aww our little webcamera program stopped sending pictures again. Maybe we try rewriting the whole sending through Internet part of things tomorrow. June 13 21:14 The live picture is still alive i see, good. It will just be looking at the hugfriends until bedtime but tomorrow we come back and then the camera snoops at the computer corner. I found some newly discovered very yummy cookies, we are a bit sleepy here in the castle so we save them for tomorrow. Come and visit if you too want a cookie. *hugs* June 13 20:12 We have to make sure the live picture doesnt stop getting sent, wich it apparently had done earlier. I think a little update fixed that, but now i wander out on a quest for cookies. Many many cookies... they may help progress tomorrow. June 13 18:10 Our own little program appears to have been working quite ok while i was away in the kitchen, cooking a spicy chicken curry. Some things left desired for the program, but before we dive deeper into that we have to feed our clever minds. And i think i will sneak outside for an evening walk too, the webmaster Garfield want cookies and having helped a lot today ofcourse i will go find some. And extra cookies for me and others who might want some too. June 13 14:45 Arent computer programs picky... we noticed our (relatively) simple way of taking webcamera pictures didnt work if the picture wasnt visible. So we try to grab the data instead of copying the webcamera preview. Well it figures the format from my little camera isnt simple colours but some odd thing named YUV420 to make video use up less memory. Well... we dont give up easily. June 13 13:30 This is quite a pieced-together little program, but it appears to do what it is wanted to do at the moment. Take pictures every second, and send one every 10 seconds for Internet viewing. So give the brave little hugfriends a lot of hugs while we continue improving this a little bit. June 13 13:07 Humm this was more tricksy than i thought, some oddity with including the webcamera. But now we have a JPG file saved, just upside down because... well someone thought saving images upside down was the way to do things?  Anyway this means we should be only some distance away from this actually working from camera, to a file, to a file on webserver brainy that can be snooped on. June 13 10:56 Well the week goes by and today we wake up our brains with some coffee again to continue the current programming quest. Me and the little webmaster really want to get this completed this week instead of the next or anytime later. What is left to do in case anyone is interested is this. Make it so FTP-ing a file instead sends a JPG image from memory. Wich also requires the grabbed image from webcam to be converted from a big BMP image to JPG. See there, lots of little bits already. Then another bit wich hopefully isnt complciated, renaming the image after it is moved to web server brainy. This is so that those who are snooping on the live picture dont get half a picture randomly. It takes a bit of time to move a picture through the series of tubes that is the Internet. And to make things hopefully work well all together, we will first of all figure out threads. If our program was a fabric being woven together, we could say the FTP-ing over Internet is one thread, the grabbing of fresh live pictures from the webcamera might be another thread. And they should work together without errors, and not cause slowdowns for their thread-friends. This was probably a lousy attempt at describing what we are learning and such here but anyways... We do the JPG bits first because i already researched that some weeks or month ago.June 09 18:48 Some rest from computer corner today, instead i went to find some new flower friends for our little castle. Well i have been pondering about some little bits in our own program thingy too, just not been writing any changes. It will work ok this week i am quite sure of it. I think i avoid filling the Diary with too much programming things, most people dont have a clue about it. But the diary pages always have room for another *hug* and a .June 08 15:03 And there we go, another little step towards the first goal, we managed to send a test file by FTP from here to the web serving brainy. There was a sneaky obstacle that delayed this little step forward but luckily we found a solution using Google. We cant all be Linux experts but its nice that people who know sometimes write articles or answer questions in forums. And then Google finds it... and then we who seek answers can find Google's finds. June 08 13:26 Humdidum... No surprise anymore why sending fresh live pictures with our new little program doesnt work. FTP is disabled on the web server brainy, it is instead using secure transfers. I found someone who had shared ftp programming code though. If i wake up the webmaster and he remembers how to enable regular file transfers getting this part of things working is almost done. We try to get things to work first, can polish and improve after that. June 07 22:14 Well we have managed to piece the webcam image together, minus the transparency bits. We will just experiment a little with how to merge together two images nicely then its bedtime. Tomorrow we dive into the sending of live pictures to the web server brainy. June 07 19:51 Well this is slow, but we dont give up ofcourse. We are pondering how to recreate the transparent text and such for our own webcamera program. Windows appears to have no function for writing text that way, so conclusion so far is to write text onto the overlay image, then it all goes over the webcam picture. June 07 17:48 I think me and the little webmaster try to complete our own webcamera program and also something else to wear that needs completing before we show up here again. If someone really wants to snoop on us in computer corner send a little email maybe we show up before things are done. June 06 17:16 Live picture get to wait until tomorrow, i dived into a nice bubble bath and became so lazy after it. I just want to gather my hugfriends on my bed to be lazy and hug them all. Between hugs i will ponder on the current quest obstacles and how me and the little webmaster can bounce over them. I think we will manage ok. June 06 13:58 Wee!  Now the webmaster Garfield is as awake as a Garfield can ever be. June 06 12:49 Having to manually add the months in my Diary is yet another little thing that needs attention. I just noticed the archived months since February are gone...  all my important (well sometimes...) little notes are missing. Because of what? I forgot to change some silly file permission on the month's pages so they could be writte on. I dont like this empty piece of history at all, but nothing to do now. I blame no citizen for not mentioning it to me or the little webmaster, i understand if you focus on my latest words. *hugs* And i will wake up the coffee-drinking Garfield, we will both work on the home created webcam program and also a database diary that cant forget to remember what i write. And what Citizens want to write too, probably. Live picture will come back this weekend with new or old camera program but most likely a lot of switching between them.
